An Odd Law
It is not a crime in the Russian Federation to commit cannibalism.
Two men from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky were, however, convicted of the murder of another man, before they ate him.
The two men met the victim at an alcohol kiosk. After a brief conversation, they killed him, dismembered his body and cooked it. They then invited their respective girlfriends to dinner claiming that it was dog meat. The women found out the true meat source only after the meal was concluded.
Because cannibalism proper is not punishable under Russian Law, the two women were not charged with a crime.
The two men were given a 20 year and a 13 year sentence.
